I'm a 3rd grade teacher with over sixteen years experience. I blog, I promote my students' writing and achievements relentlessly, I attend (and am organizing EdCamps), I participate in several Twitter education chats, and I am the 2014-2015 teacher of the year at my school.
What does your ideal school or classroom look like?
My ideal classroom looks like any office run on peoples' creative juices. The offices at any Google HQ, blogs, advertising agencies. Basically, I see that my students' mission is the same as any creative: Learn,Create, and Share. In our class, it's Explore, Create, Collaborate. If my students have a similar mission, then I want to provide them a similar experience. That means freedom to sit where they want, in comfortable spaces. That means collaborating in flexible groupings. It means eating and drinking as necessary. It means music, and pleasant lighting. It means allowing for play and silliness, as well as celebrating successes and noble failures. My class currently looks like all my dreams. I might like more space, and slightly different furniture, but I'm so very happy with what I have!
