How are you involved in education?
I have been in grade-level classrooms for more than 20 years and higher education for almost 10. Currently, I am an assistant professor and chair of the education department at Delaware Valley College where I prepare present and future educators for success. In addition to my teaching, I am an active researcher with projects in several different educational spaces. A devoted lifelong learner, I select new skills and topics to learn every year outside of my own professional development.
What's your ideal school or classroom like?
I have no requirements of my classroom. My perfect learning space has students. In them and among us, I am sure we will find everything we will need to develop excellent educational experiences.
If you were to lead a session at Edcamp USDOE, what would it be about?
Challenging norms, expectations, and overly simplistic definitions of quality teaching and learning. You'll see me banging the drum to cease the rah-rah for the status quo in education and to push self-proclaimed learners and leaders to shake it up a bit.
