How are you involved in education?
I am the Instructional Technology Specialist for Wilson School District in Pennsylvania and a Google Apps Certified Trainer. I taught high school math and computer science for 10 years and then moved into the role as the Classrooms for the Future Coach, which was a PA technology initiative. For the past 5 years, I have served teachers in leveraging technology and shifting instructional practices towards a student focused 21st Century teaching and learning environment. Helping teachers and students learn how to learn differently, and offer choices for students creating and publishing the work in the classroom.
What's your ideal school or classroom like?
Students understand more deeply when they have to teach and create authenticate products and engage in solving real problems. Learning out loud (LOLs) and Personal Displays of Accomplishments (PDAs) allow students to ignite their passions by allowing them to inquiry what interests them. This is a lofty goal for a learning environment, but as Confucius put it,... 'choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life'. Helping students acquire 21st Century skills will allow them to create their career according to their passions.
